Pinpoint is the University of Maryland's unified makerspace management platform. It helps students and staff access equipment across campus while helping makerspaces track usage and manage safety training.

What is Pinpoint?

Pinpoint helps you:

  • Access makerspace equipment safely
  • Complete required training through Canvas
  • Track your equipment usage
  • Manage makerspace permissions

Developed by the A. James Clark School of Engineering, Pinpoint connects UMD's makerspaces into a unified network.

Submitting a Bug Report

To report a bug in Pinpoint:

  1. Visit our bug reporting form.
  2. Use a clear, concise subject line that summarizes the issue.
  3. Choose a severity level from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the description, please include:
    • A detailed description of the bug
    • Steps to reproduce the issue
    • What you expected to happen
    • What actually happened
    • Your environment details (e.g., browser version, operating system)
  5. Attach any relevant screenshots or videos.

You'll receive:

  • Immediate confirmation of your report
  • Initial response within 48 hours
  • Updates as we investigate and resolve the issue

Submitting a Feature Request

Have an idea for improving Pinpoint? Share it on our feature request site:

  1. Go to our Fider instance at https://features.pinpoint.umd.edu.
  2. Sign in or create an account if you haven't already.
  3. Check if your idea has already been suggested by searching existing requests.
  4. If it's a new idea, click on "New Post" to create a feature request.
  5. Provide a clear title and detailed description of your proposed feature.
  6. Explain the problem this feature would solve and any alternatives you've considered.
  7. Submit your request.
